The Monroe County community is mourning the loss of 30-year-old Osman Augustin Perez of New Jersey, who tragically died Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 380 in Tobyhanna Township. Perez was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono Emergency Department at 8:28 a.m., following a serious accident that also involved two other passengers who sustained minor injuries.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the work van carrying Perez and his passengers was traveling northbound on I-380 at mile marker 1.1 when it entered the left shoulder in slushy conditions, struck a guardrail, and rolled over multiple times. Perez was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, coming to rest on the right shoulder, while the van ultimately came to rest in the right lane facing southeast with disabling damage.
Authorities confirmed that two additional passengers were transported to local hospitals and are in stable condition. Crash reconstruction specialists responded to the scene, and the work van was towed to the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Stroudsburg as part of the ongoing investigation.
An autopsy for Perez is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death. Officials continue to investigate the crash to fully understand the circumstances that led to this fatal incident.
