A tranquil Wednesday afternoon in rural Fayette County was forever changed by a terrible car crash that claimed the life of Sammy Hindman, a 71-year-old Fayette man whose passing has left a profound sense of mourning throughout his community.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports that the fatal collision took place about seven miles northwest Fayette on Turner Road close to Mt. Lebanon Road. Mr. Hindman was driving a farm tractor when a haystack dropped from the machine. In a horrific turn of events, the tractor crashed with the fallen bale, flipping it.
Sammy Hindman was declared dead at the scene notwithstanding emergency response attempts. Family, friends, and Fayette-area residents who knew him as a hard-working, nice, familiar presence have been shaken by the suddenness of the catastrophe.
