A 16-year-old student has died following a two-vehicle crash in Lincoln County, Kentucky, in an incident that has left a local school community and surrounding region mourning the sudden loss of a young driver.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 9:52 p.m. Friday at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Ashe Road. Investigators said a 2018 silver Mazda 3, driven by 16-year-old Brynn Bentley, was exiting the Dove Cove subdivision and attempting to turn left onto U.S. 127 when it collided with a southbound 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.
Emergency responders with the Lincoln County Fire Department worked to extricate Bentley from the vehicle after the crash. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, authorities confirmed she died from her injuries. Officials said the driver of the Silverado was also injured and transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the collision, including roadway conditions, visibility, and traffic movement at the intersection at the time of the crash. No additional contributing factors have been publicly released as the investigation remains ongoing.
Brynn Bentley was identified as a student at Boyle County High School, where she was known among classmates and teachers. School officials and community members have expressed deep sorrow following news of her death, describing the loss as especially painful given her young age and connection to the student body.
A community prayer gathering has been planned in her honor at Boyle County High School, scheduled for 4 p.m. on May 23, according to a memorial announcement shared on social media. The event is expected to bring together students, families, and educators to support one another and remember her life.
Local residents across Lincoln and Boyle counties have shared condolences and messages of support for Bentley’s family as they cope with the sudden tragedy. Many have also highlighted the importance of caution at rural intersections, where visibility and traffic speed can create dangerous conditions for young and inexperienced drivers.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash and have not indicated whether any citations or charges will be issued. Officials say further updates will be released once the investigation is complete and all contributing factors have been fully reviewed.
