Bruce Frederick Bowie, a cherished spouse, parent, radio broadcaster, and advocate for the community, departed from this life on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. He reached the age of 72.
Bruce, who was born on November 2, 1953, in Piapot, Saskatchewan, led a life characterized by his faith, kindness, and service to others. He was recognized for his constant smile, delightful sense of humor, generous spirit, and profound humility. Most importantly, family and friends reveal that he was deeply motivated by a strong love for the Lord, which influenced both his personal and professional life.
He is survived by his spouse, Maria; his sons, David and Daniel (Heather); and his adored granddaughters, Ava and Peyton. His brother, Ian (Eleanor), along with their children, Jon (Tracy) and Elayna (Barry), will also profoundly feel his absence. The family has kindly requested privacy during their time of mourning, while also expressing their desire to hear and share memories from those who were touched by Bruce's life.
In addition to his family ties, Bruce Bowie has left an enduring mark on Canadian broadcasting, particularly in Edmonton. He gained recognition as a highly regarded and influential radio figure, remembered for his captivating presence on 630 CHED and his significant contributions to regional media. Both coworkers and listeners recognize him as someone who leveraged his platform not only for entertainment but also to inspire, uplift, and support his community.
Former colleagues have shared tributes that highlight the significance of his influence. Bryn Griffiths, who collaborated with Bruce at CISN, recalled him as both a mentor and a friend. “It's very upsetting to hear about Bruce Bowie’s passing,” Griffiths remarked. “He was a legendary figure in Edmonton radio who taught me the value of engaging with the community and always encouraged me to stay true to myself. Whenever we were together, there were moments of laughter, and now I cherish many wonderful memories of a top-notch individual.”
Chris Scheetz, another past colleague, discussed Bruce’s impact on both his career and personal life. “It’s hard to express the sense of loss,” Scheetz stated. “Bruce was the most dedicated and talented broadcaster I have ever worked with. He transformed my life by motivating me to take up running, which resulted in a significant lifestyle transformation. His Christian principles were evident in everything he pursued, and he consistently served as a beacon of motivation.”
Those familiar with Bruce depict him as much more than just a radio presenter. He was a mentor, a source of motivation, and a caring individual who always checked in, provided encouragement, or offered assistance when it was needed the most. His faith, dedication to the community, and sincere compassion for others made a significant and everlasting impact.
