AMERICUS, Ga. — A significant shooting incident early Sunday has left the community of Americus reeling after police responded to reports of gunfire and found two individuals injured, including a 17-year-old who later passed away.
Shortly after 1:13 a.m. on Sunday, November 16, officers from the Americus Police Department were sent to the 300 block of Pine Street after receiving notifications of shots being fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Brandon Brown, 17, and Kaley Mercedes Arizmendi, 27, both residents of Americus, with visible gunshot injuries. A third person, 20-year-old Royce Miguel Arizmendi, was present but did not sustain any injuries, according to officials.
The two injured individuals were taken to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center (PSMC) for urgent medical attention. Given the critical nature of his injuries, Brandon Brown was subsequently moved to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where he sadly passed away from his wounds.
Information regarding Kaley Arizmendi’s condition has not been made public, but she remains hospitalized as investigators look into the details surrounding the shooting incident.
The case is presently being actively investigated by the Americus Police Department alongside the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Detectives are focused on uncovering the motive and identifying everyone involved.
