A 17-year-old girl has been confirmed as the individual who tragically lost her life in a fatal accident on the A19 late on Monday, November 24. Liv Reed, hailing from the City of Sunderland, succumbed to her injuries at the location after the vehicle she was in veered off the northbound lane between Seaham and the Herrington Interchange, as stated by Northumbria Police.

It is reported that Reed was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa operated by a 19-year-old male, who sustained critical injuries. Emergency responders were alerted shortly after 11 p.m. Authorities mentioned that the vehicle departed from the roadway for unknown reasons, leading to a collision followed by a fire, which was quickly put out.

Despite the attempts of the emergency services, Reed was declared dead at the scene. The driver was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he continues to be in critical condition. The families of both individuals have been informed.

Sgt. John Sanderson from Northumbria Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed sorrow for Reed’s family and appealed to any witnesses to step forward.

“First and foremost, we wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of the young lady who has sadly passed away,” Sanderson stated. “An extensive investigation into the events leading to the crash is currently ongoing… I urge anyone who has information — especially those with dashcam recordings — to contact us so we can gather a full understanding of what happened last night.”

Authorities request that anyone with information reach out to Northumbria Police via social media, through the police website, or by dialing 101 and referencing NP-20251124-1157.

Emergency Response

The North East Ambulance Service reported that they dispatched two ambulance teams, a specialized paramedic, a clinical team leader, a duty officer, a HART team, and a physician from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient — the driver — was taken to RVI hospital for additional care.

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they deployed two fire engines from Farringdon Community Fire Station. The teams extinguished the fire in the vehicle and assisted paramedics with immediate medical care before departing the scene shortly after 12:10 a.m.

A Family and Community in Mourning

In an emotional public tribute, Reed’s mother reflected on her daughter as a vibrant, loving teenager whose spirit impacted everyone surrounding her.

"This morning, I lost my wonderful daughter Olivia," she expressed. "My heart is shattered into countless pieces... You made an incredible impression during your 17 years on this planet. Every breath I take is for you. My love for you goes beyond anything you could ever fathom."

Reed was employed as a waitress at Tarantinos Restaurant in Sunderland, where the staff shared a poignant tribute to the unforgettable young woman.

“It is with profound sadness that we relay some tragic news,” the restaurant said. “Our beloved friend and cherished little waitress, Liv, sadly passed away last night. Anyone who had the pleasure to meet her will remember her without hesitation — witty, spirited, lively, and bursting with the kind of energy that illuminated our little restaurant.”
