CLYDE, TX — A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Clyde community after two teenage siblings were killed Sunday afternoon when their pickup truck was struck by a train at a rural railroad crossing.
The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the victims as Kyler Dailey, 16, and his sister Brileigh Janae Dailey, 19. According to troopers, the crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. near County Road 243 and FM 18, where the siblings were exiting a private driveway in a 1994 Ford F‑150. Authorities said the truck failed to yield to an oncoming train, which struck the vehicle, pushed it off the tracks, and ignited a fire that engulfed the pickup.
Justice of the Peace Paige Savell pronounced both teens dead at the scene. The train crew was unharmed.
Sergeant Marc Couch of the Texas Department of Public Safety explained the sequence of events: “On the north side of that intersection is the entrance to a private driveway. A Ford F‑150 was attempting to exit that area, crossing the railroad tracks, and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming train.”
The devastating loss has prompted an outpouring of support from the community. A GoFundMe campaign organized by Mindy Ary for the Dailey family had raised more than $57,000 as of Tuesday to help cover funeral expenses and provide support during their grief.
Brileigh, a 2025 Clyde High School graduate, was known for her excellence in softball and cheerleading, while Kyler, a junior, played football and track. Both were active members of Beltway Park Church in Abilene, where their faith and friendships were central to their lives.
The fundraiser described the siblings as “vibrant young lives with bright futures ahead of them. They were deeply loved and will always be remembered for the joy, kindness, and light they brought to those around them. Their loss has created a pain that words cannot fully express.”
Friends, classmates, and neighbors have shared tributes across social media, recalling Brileigh’s energy and leadership and Kyler’s determination and athletic spirit. Teachers and coaches praised their commitment to school and sports, noting that their absence will be felt deeply in classrooms, on the field, and within the wider Clyde community.
The tragedy has also sparked renewed conversations about railroad crossing safety in rural Texas, where private driveways often intersect with train tracks. While investigators have ruled the crash accidental, officials emphasized the importance of vigilance when approaching crossings, especially in areas without gates or warning lights.
As the Dailey family mourns, the community continues to rally around them, offering prayers, donations, and support. Vigils and memorial services are expected to be organized in the coming days, giving friends and loved ones a chance to honor the siblings’ lives and share memories of the joy they brought to others.
For Clyde, the loss of Brileigh and Kyler is immeasurable. Their story now stands as both a reminder of the fragility of life and a testament to the strength of a community united in grief and compassion.
