Yvonne McGrath: A Life of Kindness, Faith, and Exploration

Born on March 16, 1959, in Ogdensburg to the late Maynard and Flossie (Baldock) Planty, Yvonne graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton and pursued higher learning at Kingswood University (formerly known as Bethany Bible College) in New Brunswick, Canada.

According to reports from State Police, troopers arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle accident on State Highway 37 in Waddington around 7:45 a.m. on November 30. The driver, identified as 66-year-old Yvonne McGrath from Lisbon, was discovered with critical injuries. She was taken to Canton–Potsdam Hospital, where she subsequently passed away.

During the initial investigation of the accident, police visited the driver’s home, also situated on State Highway 37. Upon their arrival, investigators noted peculiar circumstances and found a deceased male inside the residence. Several search warrants were executed at both locations.

Investigation Uncovers Violent Domestic Incident

A preliminary inquiry revealed that Yvonne McGrath had been assaulted earlier that same morning by her 70-year-old husband, Paul N. McGrath, who also resided in Lisbon. Authorities stated that Yvonne was attacked while she was in bed and managed to escape by fleeing in a silver Buick Enclave before crashing a few miles away.

Later, troopers found Paul McGrath deceased inside the residence from what investigators believe to be a suicide.

Autopsy Findings Released

Autopsies conducted on December 1 by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica at Glens Falls Hospital corroborated the investigation's conclusions.

Yvonne McGrath’s death was classified as a homicide, resulting from sharp force and severe blunt force trauma.

Paul McGrath’s death was determined to be a suicide by asphyxia due to hanging.
