Ja’Narre Suggs Obituary News: Ja’Narre Suggs Identified as Victim in Christmas Morning Shooting in West Ocala

The Ocala neighborhood is grieving the untimely death of a young man following the confirmation from authorities that 21-year-old Ja’Narre Suggs of Ocala was fatally shot in west Ocala during the early hours of Christmas Day.

Per the Ocala Police Department, officers were sent out around 4:11 a.m. on December 25 in response to reports of a shooting occurring in the 800 block of West Silver Springs Place, close to the intersection with West Silver Springs Boulevard and Southwest Ninth Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Suggs on the street, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Both the officers and the Ocala Fire Rescue team promptly attempted to save his life; however, he was declared dead at the scene.

The location was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape while investigators worked to document the scene, take photographs of evidence, and gather information. By noon on Christmas Day, detectives had finished their work at the scene and began interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities stated that the reason for Suggs being in that area at the time of the shooting remains unclear. There has been no information released regarding a suspect, nor has a potential motive been revealed by the investigators.

Should this incident be categorized as a homicide, it would represent the first murder within the city limits of Ocala since 2024. The police mentioned a previous response to the shooting death of 28-year-old Cristian Oleski Contreras Leiva in the area on November 22; however, that case is still under investigation and has not been officially categorized as a homicide.
