A GoFundMe fundraiser has raised more than $50,000 to support the family of Kelvin Almonte, a 37-year-old Elmwood Park resident who was killed in a tragic single-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, according to state police.
The fatal crash occurred around 1 p.m. on December 19, when Almonte was driving his Jeep on the southbound exit ramp from the Garden State Parkway to Route 80. Authorities said the vehicle veered off the roadway, struck several traffic signs, crossed a grassy area, and ultimately collided with a tree. Almonte suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Almonte is survived by his wife, Chrystie Almonte, and their two young sons, Noah, 4, and Liam, 2. In the days following his sudden death, friends and loved ones organized a GoFundMe campaign to help Chrystie manage the financial strain and emotional challenges of losing her husband and raising their children without him.
As of December 24, the fundraiser had surpassed $50,000, reflecting an outpouring of support from the community. The campaign describes Chrystie as facing an overwhelming and heartbreaking road ahead while caring for her sons and grieving the loss of a devoted husband and father. Funds raised will help cover immediate living expenses, childcare needs, and long-term support for the family.
Friends, neighbors, and community members shared messages of sympathy and prayer, remembering Almonte as a loving family man whose life was cut short far too soon. Many noted the strong community response as a testament to the impact he had on those around him.
New Jersey State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
