Colorado Teen Killed in Nebraska Highway

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 11 a.m. on December 20 along U.S. Highway 83 near Lake Maloney. The victim, identified as Afton Robertson of Rangely, Colorado, was driving a northbound pickup truck while towing a horse trailer when the vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

Investigators said a southbound semi-tractor trailer driven by 53-year-old Garth Miller of California was unable to avoid the collision. Robertson reportedly attempted to correct her path, but the two vehicles collided. She was ejected from the pickup and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

A horse being transported in the trailer and a dog riding in the pickup truck were also killed in the accident.

Miller sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Great Plains Health in North Platte, where he remains under medical care.

Preliminary findings indicate the pickup drifting into the opposite lane caused the crash. However, investigators have not released additional details regarding potential contributing factors such as weather, speed, or road conditions. The investigation remains ongoing.
