Abbotsford Family Mourns Second Daughter’s Sudden Death on Christmas Day - US Obituary

An Abbotsford, British Columbia, family is facing unimaginable grief after the sudden and unexpected death of their 5-year-old daughter, Molly Carlton, on Christmas Day, marking the second devastating loss of a child in just 18 months.

Molly’s mother, Melissa Mae Carlton, shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional post on December 27, revealing that the tragedy occurred while the family was spending the holidays in Arizona. The cause of Molly’s death has not yet been made public.

“On Christmas morning, our sweet Molly girl, and her big sister Abi were reunited,” Melissa wrote. “This is the only thing giving me even a small sense of comfort.” She explained that Molly had deeply missed her older sister Abigail, who died suddenly in the summer of 2024 at the age of 9. According to her mother, Molly often spoke about wanting to see her sister again, asking when Jesus would return so Abigail could come back.

The grief shared by the family grew even heavier as Melissa recounted a moment her husband, Harry, remembered through tears. On the flight to Arizona earlier in the week, Molly reportedly leaned over and quietly told him that she wanted to be with her sister. “She got what she wanted,” Melissa wrote, struggling to find words amid the loss.

Following Molly’s passing, crowdfunding campaigns were launched on GiveSendGo and JustGiving to help the family cover expenses related to transporting their daughter’s body back to Canada, as well as funeral, burial, and travel costs. Messages of love, prayers, and support have poured in online from people moved by the family’s heartbreaking story.

The Carlton family’s tragedy has touched many, with supporters expressing sorrow for a loss that has occurred during what is traditionally a time of joy and togetherness. As they navigate this painful chapter, Melissa asked for continued prayers, writing that the family is trying to move forward “one very small step at a time.”
