A husband and wife were among three people killed in a shooting early Friday in Baldwin Park that relatives are calling a devastating act of violence. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies responded about 5 a.m. on April 24 to reports of gunfire in the 3200 block of Millbury Avenue, where they found three adults with gunshot wounds inside and outside a home.

Baldwin Park Couple Bich Lu, 56, and Thuan Chung, 60, Killed

A woman and a man were pronounced dead at the scene, and a second man died later at a hospital, authorities said. The Los Angeles County medical examiner's office identified two of the victims as 56-year-old Bich Lu, who died of a gunshot wound to the head outside her home, and 60-year-old Thuan Chung, who died at a hospital of multiple gunshot wounds.

Officials said Lu and Chung were a married couple being mourned by their college-age children, 21-year-old Phillip and 18-year-old Helen. Investigators are probing the case as a possible double-murder-suicide, and the third victim, believed to be the shooter, had not yet been publicly identified at the time of initial reports.

A GoFundMe page, "Support Helen and Phillip After Tragic Loss," was created to support the couple's children with funeral costs and living and education expenses. "We are facing an unimaginable tragedy," Phillip wrote on the fundraiser, which asks the public for donations to help the siblings rebuild their lives after losing both parents.

Phillip said the shooting was caused by a relative struggling with schizophrenia. "In the time leading up to this tragedy, he had made threats toward the family, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. Seeking safety and a fresh start, the family had recently moved to a new home in hopes of rebuilding their lives."

"Unbeknownst to them, their relative had been keeping a close eye and found their new home while they were moving," Phillip wrote. The details align with investigators' early assessment that the violence was targeted and involved family members, though authorities have not confirmed the relationship publicly.

The campaign has raised over $63,000 to aid the siblings, students at UC Riverside and UC Irvine respectively, with Phillip just a few months from graduation. Funds are intended for funeral and memorial expenses, Helen's college tuition and educational needs, counseling services, and daily living support as they cope with sudden and traumatic loss.

Authorities have not released the identity of the third deceased person or a formal motive, and the investigation remains ongoing with detectives reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is asking anyone with information to come forward as the Baldwin Park community rallies around Phillip and Helen in the wake of the shooting.
