The Brownsville Police Department is looking into the horrible death of fifteen-year-old Angel Guerra, who was fatally shot on January 30, 2026, on the 1300 block of S. Indiana Avenue.
Preliminary reports show that the shooting took place while a 14-year-old juvenile was handling a gun and a round was unintentionally fired hitting Angel in the stomach. The victim was sent to a nearby hospital, where he eventually passed away from his wounds.
Police have arrested the 14-year-old boy, facing manslaughter charges, and the firearm owner, 25-year-old Edgar Alexis Flores, charged with Making a Firearm Accessible to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury/Death, a Class A misdemeanor. Flores was freed on a $5,000 bond.
"This is a heartbreaking tragedy for the Brownsville community," according police officers. “Our hearts go out to Angel's family, friends, and loved ones during this very tough time.”
Police are asking anyone with information to get in touch with the Brownsville Police Department as the inquiry continues.
Angel Guerra will be remembered as a beloved son, buddy, and member of the community. His abrupt and terrible death continues to grieve by his family, friends, and neighborhood.
