The community of Calcasieu Parish is reflecting on the heartbreaking loss of Jerry Deslatte, 47, from Port Arthur, Texas, along with an unnamed passenger, who lost their lives in a single-vehicle accident on Louisiana Highway 109 close to Line Road on Sunday evening.
As reported by the Louisiana State Police, the incident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Deslatte was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado heading south when the car was unable to make a left turn, went off the road into a ditch, and rolled over. Unfortunately, both Deslatte and the passenger were not wearing seat belts, resulting in fatal injuries; both were declared dead at the scene.
Authorities are still working to ascertain the identity of the passenger. Routine toxicology tests have been conducted as part of the ongoing inquiry.
