 The Orange Park community along with the U.S. Navy is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Noely Makenda, a 21-year-old who was fatally shot in a shocking double homicide on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Officials confirmed that Makenda was gunned down in the front yard of her Oakleaf Plantation home located on the 4400 block of Hanging Moss Drive, together with her roommate and fellow sailor, 20-year-old Jordyn Forrestier.

The event took place around 11:20 p.m., when police responded to several 9-1-1 calls that reported gunfire. Investigators revealed that the shooter, 22-year-old Taylor Lomax, who was a roommate of the victims, discharged roughly 30 rounds during a physical confrontation involving Lomax’s wife and the two Navy personnel. Both Noely Makenda and Forrestier were hit several times and were declared dead at the scene.

Makenda and Forrestier had both served in the U.S. Navy, forming a close connection through their service, commitment, and friendship. Authorities stated that the suspect and the victims resided together, and Lomax’s wife had visited the home earlier that night, which led to the unfortunate confrontation resulting in the loss of the two young women.

Taylor Lomax, the suspect, was promptly apprehended and faces two charges of second-degree murder, while his wife was questioned and then released.
