Jeffrey Chesney of Columbus, Ohio Incident: Sunbury Resident Jeffrey Chesney Fatally Struck After Colliding with Stationary Truck in Delaware County

 A late-night accident on Interstate 71 in Delaware County resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man from Sunbury, prompting authorities to examine the factors surrounding the tragic event. The deceased individual has been named as Jeffrey Chesney, who passed away on Monday night after his automobile collided with a stationary commercial truck on the highway.


The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place around 10:19 p.m. Chesney was driving north on I-71 when his vehicle unexpectedly veered onto the right shoulder. Investigators indicated that his car then struck the back of a parked Freightliner commercial truck that was attached to a box trailer.

Troopers noted that the collision was quite impactful. Chesney sustained life-threatening injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Emergency personnel arrived shortly after the crash but were unable to render assistance in time to save him. Officials have not provided any information about the possible reasons that caused Chesney to exit the travel lane, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The driver of the Freightliner truck involved in the incident hails from Indiana, as per officials. This truck driver did not sustain any injuries and stayed at the scene following the event. Troopers confirmed that both Chesney and the driver of the truck were using seatbelts during the collision.

Investigators are currently focused on uncovering the reasons that led to this fatal crash. Troopers are looking into whether elements such as speed, exhaustion, health problems, or other factors might have contributed. Officials have not disclosed how long the commercial truck had been parked on the shoulder or the reason for its presence at that particular spot.
