Numerous injuries have been documented following an accident that involved the bus of the Remsen St. Mary’s basketball team in Plymouth County.
A significant accident occurred in southern Plymouth County on Saturday afternoon, resulting in injuries to several players and coaches from the Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball team. The incident took place at the junction of Highway 75 and County Road C-80 when an SUV crashed into the team’s bus that was on its way back from a scrimmage held in Dakota Dunes.
The Sioux City Catholic Diocese verified that the Remsen St. Mary’s squad was on the bus during the accident. Emergency teams quickly arrived at the location, with at least five ambulances sent out. Hospitals in Sioux City were placed on alert as it was reported that six individuals had sustained injuries in the event. Some of the injured were taken to hospitals in Sioux City, while others were sent to a healthcare facility in Sioux Falls. A helicopter was observed landing in the vicinity, but officials have not confirmed whether any patients were flown out.

By Saturday evening, authorities in Plymouth County had not provided detailed information regarding the injuries of those affected or the precise cause of the accident. The Iowa 511 traffic map indicated that the southbound lanes of Highway 75 were completely shut down following the incident, leading to drivers being redirected through an alternate route.
Following the accident, Remsen St. Mary’s Schools shared a message on social media requesting prayers for the affected students and coaches. Additionally, the school arranged a rosary gathering after the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday to offer support to the community members impacted.
The Diocese of Sioux City voiced their concern for the students and coaches who were injured, awaiting more information. At the same time, officials continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash, with more details anticipated as the situation unfolds.
