Delaware County, IN — The community of Delaware County is grappling with the heartbreaking loss of Corporal Blake Reynolds, a devoted sheriff’s deputy who tragically passed away early Wednesday morning due to an accident on Interstate 69. This incident transpired near the 247 mile-marker, close to Gaston, around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, when Reynolds was assisting a driver whose vehicle had broken down and was hit by a semi-truck.

As reported by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Reynolds was safeguarding the immobilized vehicle when a second semi traveling north lost control and crashed into both Reynolds’ patrol vehicle and the stranded truck. The collision resulted in severe injuries for Reynolds, who was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The operator of the second semi also sustained injuries and was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for surgery.

Reynolds, a four-year member of the sheriff’s office, had built a reputation for his professionalism, leadership skills, and unwavering dedication to public service. He joined the department in 2022 after serving in the Army National Guard. In June 2025, Reynolds entered into marriage with his wife, signifying a new phase in his life.
