Mark and Michelle Sweany Killed

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers from the Wooster Post responded at approximately 3:33 p.m. on June 13, 2026, following reports of a serious injury crash involving a 2024 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country. Investigators say the crash occurred when the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on State Route 226 approaching the intersection where the collision took place.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Chrysler, driven by an 18-year-old from Norton, was traveling southbound on County Road 149 and approached the intersection with State Route 226. Authorities report that the vehicle entered the intersection attempting to continue onto County Road 51 but failed to yield at a posted stop sign, placing it directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

Investigators said the motorcycle, operated by Mark Sweany with Michelle Sweany as a passenger, was struck in the eastbound lane, forcing it off the roadway and into a nearby yard. The motorcycle then came to rest on its side, resulting in both riders being ejected in the violent impact that followed the collision.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and provided immediate aid. Despite efforts to save him, Mark Sweany was pronounced dead at the crash site due to severe injuries sustained in the impact. Michelle Sweany was critically injured and transported by MedFlight to Summa Health in Akron for emergency care.

Despite extensive medical intervention, Michelle Sweany later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, marking a second devastating loss for the Sweany family within hours of the initial crash. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Chrysler and a juvenile passenger inside the vehicle were not injured in the collision.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, with multiple agencies assisting, including local sheriff’s deputies, fire and EMS units, and the county coroner’s office. Officials have not yet announced any charges as they work to carefully reconstruct the sequence of events and evaluate all contributing factors.

As the investigation continues, the Holmes County community is left reflecting on a tragedy that took two lives who were deeply connected in marriage and companionship. Friends and loved ones remember Mark and Michelle Sweany for their bond, their presence in the community, and the shared life they built together, now honored in memory as authorities continue working to fully understand how the crash occurred on that Saturday afternoon.
