Authorities in Cherokee County, Texas, are continuing to investigate a fatal two-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of two men in a violent collision on State Highway 110, leaving families and nearby communities grieving the sudden loss.

Raymond Roberson and Ratrovius Simon Die

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred on Friday at approximately 3:52 p.m. when a 2012 Chevrolet SUV was traveling northbound in the wrong lane of Highway 110 and collided head-on with a 2003 Buick LeSabre traveling southbound. The impact of the crash was severe and immediate.

Officials identified the victims as Raymond Jerald Roberson III of Troup and Ratrovius Travell Simon of Mount Enterprise. Investigators said Simon, who was driving the Buick, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the force of the collision and the extent of his injuries.

Roberson, who was operating the SUV, was transported to a nearby hospital following the crash but later died after medical staff attempted emergency treatment. Authorities confirmed that both vehicles sustained catastrophic damage consistent with a high-impact head-on collision.

Texas DPS investigators reported that preliminary findings indicate the SUV was traveling on the wrong side of the roadway moments before the crash. However, officials stressed that the full circumstances leading to that critical error are still under review as the investigation remains ongoing.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and worked to secure the area, provide medical assistance, and manage traffic along the heavily traveled highway. The roadway was temporarily closed as investigators documented evidence and cleared debris from the collision site.

Community members in Cherokee County have expressed shock and sadness over the loss of both men, as friends and relatives remember them and begin the difficult process of grieving. Local residents have also raised renewed concerns about highway safety in rural sections of State Highway 110.

Authorities say the investigation is still active as Texas DPS continues to analyze crash reconstruction data, vehicle evidence, and witness statements. Officials have not announced whether any additional factors contributed to the crash, noting that findings remain preliminary as they work to fully understand what led to the deadly collision.
