Ohio Motorcyclist Shawn Woolum Dies After Collision With Car Driven by 16-Year-Old in Pleasant Township

 Authorities in Marion County, Ohio, are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of 54-year-old motorcyclist Shawn R. Woolum, leaving a community mourning a sudden and devastating loss on a busy local roadway.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on May 18, 2026, at approximately 6:08 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 4 and White Oaks Road in Pleasant Township. Officials say the incident involved a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in a collision that happened during evening traffic hours.

Investigators identified the victim as Shawn Woolum of Marion, who was riding a black 2017 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse motorcycle at the time of the crash. Authorities confirmed that he suffered catastrophic injuries after being thrown from the motorcycle due to the force of the impact.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 16-year-old driver operating a 2011 Kia Forte was traveling northbound on State Route 4 and attempted to make a left turn onto White Oaks Road. Troopers say the vehicle allegedly failed to yield to the oncoming motorcycle, resulting in a head-on style collision at the intersection.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene and transported Woolum to Marion General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts. The juvenile driver also sustained minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.

Officials noted that Woolum was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, a factor investigators routinely document as part of standard collision reporting. Authorities emphasize that all contributing circumstances will be evaluated as part of the ongoing investigation.
