According to the Westerly Police Department, emergency crews responded around 12:03 p.m. on May 18, 2026, after receiving multiple reports of a plane crash near Airport Road in the area surrounding Westerly State Airport. When officers and rescue crews arrived, they located a crashed single-engine aircraft in a field near the airport. Authorities confirmed the pilot, later identified as Isaac Seekell of Charlestown, Rhode Island, was the only person aboard the plane at the time of the crash.
