LUFKIN, TX — A respected pediatrician from Lufkin is facing felony charges after a deadly head‑on collision near Texas Bible College left one man dead and another seriously injured.
Authorities say Dr. George Fidone, 65, was arrested Thursday and charged with intoxication manslaughter for the death of Dmarcus Hadnot, 26, of Pollok, and intoxication assault for injuries sustained by Paige Turner, 24. Fidone, who practices at The Children’s Clinic of Lufkin and The Children’s Clinic of Jasper, posted a $250,000 bond and was released.
The crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. on January 17 along College Drive, when Fidone’s Mercedes collided head‑on with Hadnot’s Kia. Hadnot was pronounced dead at the scene, while Turner was airlifted to a Tyler hospital with serious injuries. A dog traveling in Hadnot’s vehicle also died in the crash.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a witness reported Fidone driving at high speed, veering into the oncoming lane before swerving back and striking the Kia. Fidone allegedly admitted fault at the scene, telling officers, “I was just on my phone,” and later calling 911 to confess, “I came into their lane. It’s my fault.”
Investigators discovered a hydrocodone bottle inside Fidone’s vehicle. Hospital records revealed a serum alcohol level of 0.14, equivalent to a blood alcohol content of approximately 0.116, well above Texas’ legal limit of 0.08. Tests also indicated the presence of opiates and THC.
Fidone suffered non‑life‑threatening injuries in the crash. Investigators noted that neither Hadnot nor Turner were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
Fidone’s attorney, Doug Murphy, issued a statement expressing condolences to the victims’ families. The case remains under investigation, and no trial date has been set.
