Rayven Amuan Edwards, 34, Killed in Glover Park Domestic Violence Shooting; Estranged Partner Dies by Suicide
The Glover Park community is reeling after a tragic domestic violence incident on Wednesday, February 11, that claimed the life of 34-year-old Rayven Amuan Edwards. Edwards was fatally shot by her estranged partner, 35-year-old Stephon Marquis Jeter, who later died by apparent suicide following a police pursuit. Their 3-year-old son, Million Jeter, was safely recovered.
Authorities reported that the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded around 4:45 p.m. to a shooting at an apartment complex in Glover Park. Officers found Edwards with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced her dead at the scene. Her 10-year-old daughter was also shot but survived with non-life-threatening injuries, while an 8-year-old boy witnessed the attack unharmed.
Jeter, Edwards’ estranged partner and father of their toddler, fled the scene with the 3-year-old, prompting an AMBER Alert and a multi-agency search. The pursuit ended in Southeast D.C., where Jeter’s vehicle crashed. Officers discovered him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. The toddler was not in the vehicle and was later located safe at a family member’s home in Prince George’s County. Authorities noted that Jeter had a criminal history, including a prior conviction related to conspiring to traffic firearms into D.C.
Neighbors described the scene as horrifying. One recounted hearing “blood-curdling” screams and seeing a young girl with blood on her arm reporting that her stepfather had just shot her mother.
Interim Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll called the case a tragic escalation of a domestic dispute. Jennifer Wesberry of DC Safe, an organization supporting domestic violence victims, emphasized the profound impact on the community and children, stating: “It’s devastating to the community. It’s devastating to the children. The kind of generational impact that it has is profound.”
This incident underscores the critical need for awareness, intervention, and resources to prevent domestic violence and support survivors, while the Glover Park community mourns the loss of Edwards and grapples with the trauma left in its wake.
