North Central College Student Henry Blackmore Dies in Train Accident at 18

 The North Central College community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Henry Kellen Blackmore, an 18-year-old student who tragically died Sunday night in a train accident in Geneva, Illinois. Authorities reported that emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 9:51 p.m. near the Western Avenue grade crossing. 

Henry was found by a freight train conductor near the Union Pacific–West railway tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that foul play is not suspected, and the incident remains under investigation.

Henry was more than just a student—he was a beloved member of the North Central College volleyball team, a dedicated scholar, and a cherished friend to many. College officials described him as intelligent, kind, and compassionate, someone whose presence brightened every room he entered. His teammates recall his humility, encouragement, and unwavering support, noting that he inspired others through quiet leadership and positivity.

Beyond the campus, Henry was a loving son and brother, whose compassion and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on family and friends alike. His smile, kindness, and ability to make people feel valued were hallmarks of his character.
