The 67-year-old James Parker, who had been missing the night before, was discovered dead on Saturday morning, therefore Mount Pleasant community is grieving.

Parker was last seen Friday at 7 p.m. in the Hobcaw Point area near Bampfield Drive off Mathis Ferry Road, according to the Mount Pleasant Police Department. Police noted that Parker had Alzheimer's disease, which raised alarm about his safety when he didn't return.

Parker was found, officials said around noon Saturday. About two hours after 9 a.m. Saturday morning, the Charleston County Coroner's Office certified his death in Hobcaw Creek.

According the coroner's office, an autopsy will help to establish the official cause and manner of death.

Parker was remembered as a long-time reporter for The Post and Courier, where he spent years informing and serving the Lowcountry population through his journalistic endeavors.
