At the East Feliciana Parish Courthouse on Saturday, January 31, gunfire broke out during a Mardi Gras celebration in Clinton, injuring at least six people and killing one confirmed.

Along the parade route, as locals and tourists gathered to enjoy the festivities, the gunfire started. Witnesses described hearing many gunshots; the area became chaotic as people ran for shelter.

Law enforcement and emergency responders showed up at once. Nearby hospitals were receiving several victims shot wounds. One person died as a result of the shooting, according authorities verified; the circumstances of other victims have not yet been completely released.

Officials have remained mute on possible motives, arrests, or information about suspects. Investigators are asking anyone with knowledge to come forward as they keep studying the events surrounding the violence.
