Though critically injured, the victim was delivered to the hospital before later passing from his injuries and declared dead.

The victim, Omer Niaz Muhammad, also known by his stage name Lil OT, a young artist connected to the Hamilton and Toronto hip-hop scene, was identified by police.

Investigators think the shooting was directed and have stated there is no known present risk to public safety. Police said two suspects escaped in a white SUV and no arrests have been made as of now.

The probe is being led by the Halton Regional Police Major Crime Bureau. As they investigate the circumstances behind the shooting, officers are scouring the neighborhood and checking CCTV tapes for witnesses.

Anyone who may possess dashcam or security surveillance from Fairview Street, Prospect Street, or Guelph Line about the time of the occurrence is being sought by police.

Lil OT had been slowly developing a fan base via his music, attracting notice on social media and inside the Ontario underground hip-hop scene. Renowned for his ambition and local visibility, he was tirelessly building his reputation and creative voice before he died.

Given that he had previously survived a different shooting in Hamilton, his death has touched followers and other musicians profoundly. Many have turned to social media to show shock, sadness, and compassion remembering him as a young artist with potential whose life was cut too soon.
