Lieutenant Chris Diaz of Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Faces Charges After Attempted Contact with Alleged Minor
The Miami community is reeling after the arrest of Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Chris Diaz, 50, in connection with a child solicitation sting operation. Diaz was taken into custody Friday following a confrontation arranged by 561 Predator Catchers, a vigilante group associated with MMA fighter Dustin “Scrappy” Lampros.
According to video released by the group, Diaz believed he was meeting a 15-year-old girl for a date and had sent a sexual selfie to the account. During the confrontation at a movie theater, Diaz stated that he “hoped” the individual was 18 but acknowledged that the profile indicated she was 15. Following the incident, Delray Beach police arrested Diaz on a battery charge.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz confirmed Diaz’s employment and denounced the alleged conduct, calling it “a serious betrayal of the oath we swear and the trust our community places in us to protect our children.” The sheriff’s office emphasized the seriousness of the alleged contact with a minor and noted that internal reviews are ongoing.
The incident has drawn widespread concern about law enforcement accountability and officer conduct in online predator stings. As the investigation continues, Diaz faces criminal charges and scrutiny from both the public and internal oversight within the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
