The Carrollton community is mourning a tragic incident on Interstate 20 that resulted in the death of 52-year-old Jorge Narvaez during an officer-involved shooting on Friday afternoon. Authorities reported that Narvaez had been involved in a domestic dispute earlier in the day with his wife and another individual.

According to preliminary reports from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), who are leading the investigation at the request of the Villa Rica Police Department, Narvaez pursued the other party in a vehicle, prompting multiple 911 calls for a possible road rage situation. Officers later located both vehicles on I-20 eastbound just past the Post Road exit. Narvaez reportedly exited his car armed with a firearm and approached his wife’s vehicle and a responding officer. Two officers opened fire, striking Narvaez multiple times; he was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the confrontation.

Narvaez’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy. The shooting led to a significant closure of I-20 eastbound, causing major traffic disruptions in the area. The GBI will conduct a thorough, independent investigation, after which the case will be reviewed by the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, as is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in Georgia.

The incident has left family, friends, and the community grappling with the sudden and violent loss, while authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the deadly confrontation.
