Aniya Marie Lee, Formerly Missing Youngstown Girl, Arrested on Domestic Battery Charge After Viral Video
The Youngstown community is following the troubling case of 19-year-old Aniya Marie Lee, who was arrested on February 12 in Hancock County, West Virginia, on a domestic battery charge. The incident involves her 52-year-old husband, Joey Mercer, and came to light after a viral video circulated on X (formerly Twitter), which Mercer originally shared on Instagram, allegedly showing Lee assaulting him with a wine glass.
Aniya Lee first gained public attention as a missing child in Youngstown, Ohio, when she disappeared at age 12 from Wirk Street. At the time, police described her as a verbal girl with autism. She was located safely approximately two and a half hours later. Since then, she has gone missing on a few occasions, with the most recent disappearance recorded in 2023 when she was 17.
Following the latest incident, Lee was booked into Northern Regional Jail. Mugshots and booking records confirm her arrest for domestic battery, reportedly linked directly to Mercer, who has previously made complaints against her. Authorities have not released further information regarding Mercer’s injuries or Lee’s status following the arrest.
The situation has prompted discussions around age-gap relationships and intimate partner violence, highlighting concerns about safety, accountability, and the complex circumstances surrounding the lives of those involved. Local residents and online communities are monitoring developments as law enforcement continues its investigation.
