WAGONER COUNTY, OK — Authorities are investigating the suspicious death of 23‑year‑old Cheyann Anderson, whose body was discovered early Thursday morning on the front porch of her home in the Whitehorn Cove area.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an unconscious woman at the residence. Upon arrival, they found Anderson deceased, covered in severe injuries. Investigators determined she had been beaten with a wooden bat and tased before her death.
Sheriff Chris Elliott said while the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed, evidence inside the home strongly suggests the injuries played a major role. The medical examiner’s report will provide the final determination. Elliott described the case as deeply tragic: “She was only 23 years old, and for her to die like she did, it is just very, very tragic.”
Two of Anderson’s roommates, Christopher Zwirtz and Roberta Slagle, have been arrested on assault charges. Investigators said Slagle admitted to tasing Anderson during an altercation, while evidence at the scene confirmed Anderson was beaten with a bat. Both remain in custody at the Wagoner County Jail as detectives continue to build the case.
Authorities believe Anderson’s death is likely a homicide, though the investigation is ongoing. Detectives are conducting interviews, reviewing surveillance footage, and gathering additional evidence to determine the full circumstances.
Anderson leaves behind a two‑year‑old daughter, a loss that has devastated her family. Her grandmother described her as a happy, loving person who came from a good family but tragically had “evil people living with her.”
Her mother shared a heartfelt tribute, remembering Cheyann as someone who loved life, her family, and especially her daughter. Born June 12, 2002, in St. Mary’s, Maryland, Anderson graduated from Porter High School and worked at McDonald’s as a cashier and server, where she enjoyed helping others.
She loved the outdoors, including horseback riding, hunting, and fishing, and was known for her deep affection for animals and nature. Family members said she found joy in simple moments and cherished her role as a mother above all else.
Detectives are pursuing leads and working to determine whether additional charges will be filed against Zwirtz and Slagle. Sheriff Elliott urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office, stressing that community cooperation is vital in solving violent crimes.
For Anderson’s family, the focus remains on honoring her memory and caring for her young daughter. The case has shaken the Whitehorn Cove community, where residents are rallying to support the family during this time of grief.
