Tom and Tyler Wright Obituary: Southaven Family Dies in Tragic House Fire

According family, friends, and Southaven Police, Tom Wright, 87, and his son Tyler Wright, 32, perished Tuesday in a house fire in Southaven.Officials responded to the fire in the 800 block of Oaklawn Place, close to Rasco Road and Elmore.Following the fire, Tyler's mother, Karla Wright, was also taken to the hospital; she is now healing.

The Wright family was highly regarded and well-known in the Southaven neighborhood.Friends recall Tyler as a gifted athlete who excelled in both baseball and football while at Southaven.Tyler was a soccer player, a baseball star at Southaven, highly well-liked.He got along with everyone, as well.Dalton Dawson, a long-time family friend, remarked, "Everybody loved him, and it's simply a tragedy this has transpired."

Dawson revealed that Tyler and he developed a close friendship in elementary school that lasted well into adult years.He set up a GoFundMe in response to the catastrophe to assist with funeral expenses and support Karla Wright's recovery and medical bills."Recovery for their mother, Mrs. Karla, and you know, just to help her out in the next year or so, to help pay for bills or anything that's needed," Dawson stated.

While the cause of the fire is still being investigated, the Southaven community is still grieving the death of both Tom and Tyler Wright.Celebrated for their lives and the beneficial effect they had on everyone who knew them, loved ones are keeping cherished memories of the family.
