Baptist Health Fires Nurse Over Viral Karoline Leavitt Remarks; Supporters Launch GoFundMe

BOCA RATON, FL — A labor and delivery nurse at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital has been terminated after posting a viral TikTok video in which she made graphic remarks wishing harm on White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who recently announced her pregnancy.

Alexis “Lexie” Lawler Viral Karoline Leavitt Remarks

The nurse, identified online as Alexis “Lexie” Lawler, sparked outrage after her video circulated widely. In the clip, Lawler used strong language and referenced severe childbirth injuries, including a fourth‑degree perineal tear, wishing Leavitt long‑term medical complications. The video quickly drew widespread criticism across social media platforms.

In a statement, Baptist Health South Florida confirmed that Lawler is no longer employed by the health system. The hospital emphasized that while personal opinions are respected, “there is no place in health care for language or behavior that calls into question a caregiver’s ability to provide compassionate, unbiased care.”

Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer also weighed in, saying he contacted hospital leadership after learning of the video. He later confirmed Lawler’s firing, writing on social media: “These disgusting comments have no place in medicine or in our community.”

Following her termination, supporters of Lawler launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Help Lexie Lawler Fight Retaliation for Speaking Out.” The fundraiser argues that Lawler lost her job for expressing her First Amendment‑protected views and seeks financial assistance for legal fees and living expenses. As of this week, the campaign has begun gaining traction online.

Florida’s nursing board has not issued a public statement on whether Lawler’s license is under review.

The incident highlights the growing tension between free speech claims and professional accountability in health care. While Lawler’s supporters frame the firing as retaliation, critics argue that her remarks undermined the trust and compassion expected of medical professionals.
