According to officials, Anderson County 911 received reports of the crash shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Monday. Responding emergency crews arrived at the scene on Five Forks Road, where they found a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree following what investigators believe was a loss of control while navigating a curve.

Preliminary findings from investigators indicate the vehicle was traveling along Five Forks Road when the driver lost control while exiting a bend in the roadway. The vehicle then left the road and collided with a tree, resulting in severe impact damage and multiple injuries to the occupants inside the car.

Authorities confirmed that Spencer Martin was seated in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials with the Anderson County Coroner’s Office later ruled his death accidental following their initial assessment of the incident.

Two additional teenagers who were also inside the vehicle were injured in the crash and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been publicly released as of now, and investigators have not provided further updates regarding their recovery or medical status following the collision.

Emergency personnel from the Piercetown Fire Department, along with law enforcement and medical responders, worked at the scene to secure the area, assist the injured, and document evidence for the ongoing investigation. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the crash investigation with assistance from the coroner’s office.

Officials noted that the crash occurred during the early hours of Memorial Day week, a time safety agencies often identify as the beginning of the “100 deadliest days” for teen drivers, when fatal crashes involving young drivers tend to increase due to factors such as nighttime driving, speeding, and reduced experience behind the wheel.

The loss of Spencer Martin has deeply affected the Pendleton High School community and Anderson County residents, with classmates, friends, and family members mourning the sudden passing of a teenager remembered by many as a young life taken far too soon. Tributes continue to spread as the community comes together in grief and support.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to reconstruct the exact sequence of events that led to the crash. Officials have urged drivers, especially young motorists, to exercise caution on rural and curved roadways where loss of control can quickly lead to devastating consequences in a matter of seconds.
