 A late-night shooting in Poplar Bluff has left a Missouri community grieving after 45-year-old Brittany Luna was killed in a violent incident that police say remains under active investigation. Detectives are now working to determine exactly what led to the fatal shooting while questioning a person of interest connected to the case.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, officers were dispatched around 10:23 p.m. on May 16 after reports of gunfire near the intersection of Victor and Thomas streets. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.

Police said officers immediately began rendering emergency medical aid while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Despite lifesaving efforts by both officers and emergency responders, the victim later died from the injuries she sustained during the shooting. Authorities subsequently identified her as Brittany Luna, 45, of Poplar Bluff.

The sudden violence has shaken residents in the area, where neighbors reported seeing a large police response as investigators secured the scene and searched for evidence throughout the night.
