Pueblo police are investigating a fatal crash that left a man dead late Wednesday night after a white SUV involved in an earlier domestic disturbance call fled from officers and later crashed at a city intersection.

Andrew Mendoza Killed After White SUV Crashes

Authorities identified the victim as Andrew Mendoza, who was killed after being ejected from the vehicle during the collision. The crash is now being examined as part of an ongoing investigation that began earlier in the evening with a reported domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Beulah Avenue.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, officers were initially dispatched shortly after 10:30 p.m. on May 20, 2026, after witnesses reported a physical altercation between individuals at the residence. One person reportedly left the scene in a white SUV before police arrived.

When officers attempted to locate the vehicle, they initiated a traffic stop after identifying the SUV. Police said the driver failed to stop and continued driving away from the area. Officers did not engage in a pursuit and instead redirected their attention back to the original domestic disturbance location to continue their investigation.

Shortly afterward, emergency dispatchers received reports of a serious crash at the intersection of Northern Avenue and Van Buren Street. Responding officers confirmed the vehicle involved matched the description and license plate of the SUV connected to the earlier incident.

Investigators determined that Mendoza was inside the SUV at the time of the crash and was ejected during the impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released information about the driver’s identity, stating that the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will make the official identification.

Police have not confirmed what caused the crash, including whether speed, impairment, or other contributing factors played a role. The circumstances leading from the initial domestic disturbance call to the fatal collision remain under active review by investigators.

Officials also noted that this incident marks the seventh fatal traffic crash in Pueblo so far in 2026, highlighting ongoing concerns about roadway safety in the area. Detectives continue to gather evidence, review witness statements, and reconstruct the timeline of events to determine exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
