DURHAM, NC — Authorities are investigating a tragic incident after a man and woman were found dead inside a Durham apartment early Wednesday morning in what police believe was a murder‑suicide.
The victims have been identified as Shakeva Dixon, 27, of Durham, and Maurice Langston, 36, of Goldsboro. Both suffered gunshot wounds and were discovered inside a unit at Crestview Apartments off Crest Street, according to the Durham Police Department.
Preliminary findings suggest the case was a murder‑suicide, though investigators have not yet released details about the exact circumstances leading up to the shooting. Officials confirmed that Dixon and Langston were parents to two children, but their ages and whereabouts at the time of the tragedy have not been disclosed. Police emphasized that ensuring the children’s safety is a priority as the inquiry continues.
Forensic teams spent several hours at the scene, carefully photographing and collecting evidence inside the apartment and around the surrounding area. Investigators also documented a vehicle parked near the unit. Police tape remained in place throughout the day as officers worked to secure the site and gather every detail connected to the deadly incident.
Authorities said officers were on scene for more than nine hours, processing evidence and reviewing information. The Durham Police Department stressed that the case remains active, with no final conclusions drawn while investigators continue their work.
The deaths have shaken the Crestview Apartments community, where neighbors expressed shock at the tragedy. Many said the incident underscores the importance of ongoing support for families facing domestic challenges.
As the investigation moves forward, officials are expected to release additional details once they are confirmed. For now, the focus remains on piecing together what led to the fatal shooting and ensuring the well‑being of the children left behind.
