DOWNERS GROVE, IL — What began as a routine Facebook Marketplace transaction ended in unimaginable tragedy Monday evening when Eliza Morales, a 30‑year‑old expectant mother, was brutally stabbed to death inside her suburban apartment. Authorities say the suspect, Nedas Revuckas, 19, attacked Morales during a meetup over a used pickup truck, killing her and her unborn child before setting the home ablaze.

According to prosecutors, Revuckas had responded to a listing for a dark red 1994 Ford Ranger posted by Morales’ husband. Surveillance footage shows Morales meeting the teen around 5:30 p.m., handing him a screwdriver to remove license plates. Moments later, Revuckas allegedly entered her apartment with the tool in hand. Video evidence captured the door opening and closing during what investigators described as a violent struggle.

Police and firefighters arrived at the burning home around 6:09 p.m., finding Morales unresponsive with dozens of stab wounds to her neck and head. She was five months pregnant with her second child. Her husband and two‑year‑old daughter were not home at the time.

Investigators later discovered the Ranger parked at Revuckas’ Westmont residence. After initially denying involvement, he confessed when police found bloody clothing inside his home. Prosecutors say Revuckas admitted to stabbing Morales after becoming upset about the condition of the truck, telling investigators, “They sold me a broken car and I didn’t know what to do. All I wanted to do was yell at someone.” He also confessed to starting the blaze in Morales’ kitchen.

Revuckas now faces a slate of charges, including first‑degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, armed robbery, aggravated arson, and animal cruelty. He was ordered held without bail following his Thursday court appearance.

The killing has devastated Morales’ family and community. Her husband, Gabriel Morales, said he received the call while at work that his wife and unborn baby had died. “I’m gonna spend the rest of my life missing her,” he told reporters, vowing to stay strong for their daughter.

Loved ones gathered for a vigil Wednesday evening, remembering Morales as a kind and devoted mother. “She’s a sweetheart and she didn’t deserve this,” said her cousin, Carolina Castro.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, which has raised fresh concerns about the dangers of online marketplace meetups and the devastating impact of senseless violence.
