MILTON, GA — Authorities say a body recovered from a pond near Mayfield Park is believed to be that of Nathan Smith, the 27‑year‑old son of rapper Lil Jon who performed under the name DJ Young Slade.
Smith was reported missing on February 3 after leaving his residence on foot around 6 a.m. without his cellphone, raising concerns that he may have been disoriented. The Milton Police Department expanded the search to a nearby pond, where divers from the Cherokee County Fire Department retrieved the body at 11:53 a.m. Friday.
“The individual is believed to be Nathan Smith,” police said in a statement, noting that formal identification awaits confirmation from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators added that no signs of foul play have been found, though the case remains active pending the official cause and manner of death.
Smith was the son of Jonathan Smith, better known as Lil Jon, and his estranged wife Nicole. The family had requested privacy during the search. Nathan was described as 5‑foot‑9, 150 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair. He was also known for his music career, releasing his latest single, “Feels”, in March 2025.
The discovery has left fans and the Atlanta music community in shock, as tributes poured in for the young DJ who had been carving out his own path in the industry. Friends and supporters remembered him for his creativity, energy, and passion for music.
Authorities continue to investigate, with the medical examiner expected to provide clarity on the circumstances of Smith’s death. For now, the focus remains on supporting the family as they grieve the loss of a son and artist whose life ended far too soon.
🕊️ May Nathan Smith (DJ Young Slade) rest in peace, and may comfort and strength surround his family, friends, and community during this difficult time.
