FALL RIVER, MA — A tragic shooting inside a Barnes Street home has left a mother and her adult son dead, and authorities say a 54‑year‑old man is now facing charges in connection with the case.
Fall River police responded to a 911 call around 8:05 p.m. Friday at 431 Barnes Street, where they discovered 25‑year‑old Nicholas Almeida and his mother, 54‑year‑old Elizabeth Almeida, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital but were later pronounced dead, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.
Investigators identified Arlington Cole, who was reportedly in a dating relationship with Elizabeth Almeida, as the suspect. Cole was found at the scene with a firearm and taken into custody. He has been charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, though officials say additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
The incident has been described as a double homicide, and the case is being investigated jointly by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit and Fall River police. Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, but the community has been left shaken by the violent deaths of a mother and son.
District Attorney Quinn emphasized that the investigation remains active and that more information will be provided as charges are finalized.
