BROOKHAVEN, GA — Twitch streamer and rapper Aspen Kartier, known off‑platform as Aspen Easterling, was arrested Friday night on an animal cruelty charge following the circulation of a viral video that appeared to show her mistreating her puppy during a livestream.
Authorities say the 19‑year‑old was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. at her residence in the 1000 block of Town Boulevard after Brookhaven police executed a search warrant prompted by multiple public complaints. The footage, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, depicted Easterling roughly grabbing and allegedly striking her three‑month‑old Maltipoo puppy after it escaped its kennel. The video sparked widespread outrage among viewers and drew condemnation from animal welfare organizations, including PETA.
Officers located the puppy inside the home and reported that it appeared to be in good health. However, as a precaution, DeKalb County Animal Control took custody of the dog while the investigation continues. Easterling was booked into DeKalb County Jail, though no plea has been entered and no trial date has yet been set.
In response to the backlash, Twitch banned Easterling’s account indefinitely, citing violations of community guidelines. The platform’s decision reflects its zero‑tolerance stance on content that depicts abuse or endangers animals.
Easterling has denied harming the dog, claiming the video was taken out of context. Despite her defense, the incident has fueled ongoing debate about accountability for livestreamers and the role of social media in exposing misconduct.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details regarding potential court proceedings.
