Inglewood Daycare Worker Fired After Video Shows Shoe Thrown at 5-Year-Old Girl

INGLEWOOD, CA — A daycare worker has been fired from the Destiny Development Center in Inglewood after surveillance footage revealed her throwing a shoe at a 5‑year‑old girl with special needs, striking the child in the head and causing her to cry.

Inglewood Daycare Worker Fired After Video Shows Shoe Thrown

The incident occurred on January 16, when the child, who had been enrolled at the center for three years, told her mother, Michelae Jones, that “Ms. Emily hit me in the ear with a shoe.” Jones demanded to see the footage, but director Danielle Williams initially claimed the girl was accidentally struck while the worker tossed stray shoes into another room.

The video, which has since gone viral, showed the worker identified as Ms. Emily deliberately hurling the shoe. Two other employees witnessed the act — one appearing to laugh — but neither intervened or reported it. Williams later described the staffers as “bad hires” and terminated Ms. Emily immediately after reviewing the footage. The two other employees were first suspended and then fired. “This is not a representation of my school. We don’t approve of abuse,” Williams said.

The child’s family expressed outrage over the delayed response and lack of oversight. Kira Townsend, the girl’s aunt, questioned why surveillance footage was not routinely checked and criticized the absence of stronger protocols. Jones has demanded criminal charges against Ms. Emily, calling for accountability. “You need to be in jail like any other child abuser. That’s what I want — justice,” she said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are reviewing the footage and gathering witness statements as they determine whether charges will be filed.

The case has sparked widespread concern about daycare safety and the importance of proper staff training and monitoring. Parents and community members have voiced support for the family, emphasizing that children entrusted to care centers must be protected from harm.

For Jones and her family, the incident has been deeply traumatic. They are demanding justice while also calling for stronger safeguards to ensure no other child suffers similar abuse.
