The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has launched an internal review after a viral video showed an officer threatening a 17-year-old driver during a traffic stop on the city’s east side.
The incident occurred on February 6 near Warren Central High School, following an anti-ICE student protest. According to IMPD, officers were monitoring the area due to reports of possible firearms among students participating in the walkout.
Police said Trevion Taylor, 17, was pulled over for allegedly failing to signal a lane change and because officers suspected a passenger in the vehicle may have been armed. In a statement, IMPD said officers believed they smelled marijuana coming from the car and had observed a juvenile entering the vehicle with a firearm prior to the stop.
Video posted on social media by Taylor’s mother, Ambar Taylor, captures a tense moment during the stop. As an officer pulls Trevion from the driver’s seat by his wrist, the officer can be heard yelling, “I will f---ing kill you. Do you understand me?” The footage has since circulated widely online, drawing public attention and criticism.
According to a police report, one passenger — not Trevion — was arrested and found to be carrying a loaded handgun. Trevion and the other occupants were released without charges or citations.

Ambar Taylor has publicly accused IMPD of racial profiling. Speaking to local media, she expressed fear for her son’s safety and called for accountability. “He’s a young Black man. You’ve seen the news 100 times. My son will not be a victim,” she said. She has announced plans to file a formal complaint and is demanding the release of body camera footage, as well as termination of the officer involved. In a statement to 13News, she added, “Acknowledgment without accountability is not enough.”
The video has sparked widespread debate online, with many calling for transparency and disciplinary action if policy violations are found.
In response, IMPD stated that the internal review will examine whether the officer’s actions were consistent with department policies and values. The department has not released additional details about potential disciplinary measures, pending the outcome of the review.
As the investigation continues, community members are closely watching the case, which has intensified discussions about policing, de-escalation, and accountability during interactions with young people.
