An 18-year-old Dothan man lost his life Sunday night after being struck by multiple vehicles while crossing Montgomery Highway, authorities confirmed.
According to the Dothan Police Department, officers were dispatched just after 7 p.m. on February 8 following reports of a pedestrian struck in the 4700 block of Montgomery Highway, in front of the Dothan Pavilion Shopping Center. When officers arrived at the scene, they found David Allen Tice of Dothan lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said Tice had been crossing the highway from the area of La Parilla restaurant toward Walmart when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes. Police stated that after the initial impact, Tice was then hit by a second vehicle whose driver reportedly could not see him in the roadway.
The department’s CRASH Team is leading the investigation into the incident. Authorities indicated that, unless new information emerges, the drivers involved are not expected to face charges. Officials described the incident as a tragic loss and extended condolences to Tice’s family and friends during this difficult time.
The stretch of Montgomery Highway where the crash occurred is a busy commercial corridor, particularly in the evening hours, and the accident has renewed conversations in the community about pedestrian safety along high-traffic roadways.
In the wake of the tragedy, family members and friends have begun sharing tributes remembering David as a young man with his life ahead of him. A GoFundMe campaign has been organized to assist his family with funeral and related expenses, raising nearly $2,000 as of Tuesday.
As the investigation continues, the Dothan community is left mourning the sudden loss of a young life. Authorities encourage drivers and pedestrians alike to exercise caution, particularly in heavily traveled areas, as they work to determine all the circumstances surrounding the crash.
