According to the Dover Police Department, a school bus driver has been taken into custody after reports that earlier this month he picked up a woman and performed sexual acts on a school bus.
Following an investigation uncovering claimed illegal activity that took place on January 6, police said Alvin Rohm, 62, was taken into custody. The case came to light when a local school district employee found what officials termed as incriminating video footage while looking over audio recordings for an unrelated probe.
The police report stated that the video showed Rohm, who was employed by a contracted bus service not directly by the school district, halting the school bus to collect a woman from a roadway. Rohm was claimed to be seen sexually interacting with the woman and exchanging money after parking the bus.
The incident did not include pupils, and authorities pointed out that Rohm was not a school system worker. The charges, however, raised major doubts given the site and use of a school bus during the occurrence.
Dover police started an inquiry following their examination of the video evidence on January 12 that led to Rohm's arrest. Police stated he was arrested peacefully.
Along with lewdness, Rohm has been accused of patronizing a prostitute inside 1,000 feet of a school, house, church, or venue. Following his arrest, he was free on his own recognizance bond, which meant he didn't have to put up bail but had to abide by court stipulations as the case went on.
Authorities have not disclosed further information regarding the woman involved or whether more accusations might be made. The inquiry is still in progress.
Though confirming that Rohm was not their employee, the school district has not made any public comments on the case. Officials emphasized that student safety continues front most concern and that suitable measures are implemented every time contracted services pose problems.
