One individual has lost their life after a shooting incident in the central Auckland neighborhood of Onehunga earlier today, leading to a considerable emergency response and a continuing police inquiry.
Emergency personnel were summoned to a situation near Arthur Street around 11 a.m. Law enforcement confirmed a substantial presence at the location, with sections of Arthur Street and adjacent Alfred Street secured as officers managed the scene. The police helicopter was also observed flying overhead for some time before leaving the area.
St John Ambulance arrived on the scene with an ambulance, a rapid response team, and an operations supervisor. Medics attended to one individual who was discovered in a severe state and transported them to Auckland City Hospital.
Despite medical interventions, the individual later succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities have not yet disclosed specifics regarding the incident leading to the shooting, including any information about potential suspects being apprehended. Officials state that investigations are still in progress, and additional details will be shared as they arise.
