As investigators investigate how a targeted attack transpired in a public space late Friday night, 42-year-old Nikisha Rose is dead and a guy is in hospital from a lethal late-night shooting in Michael's Village.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and rushed the victims to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for immediate medical care. Though doctors tried, the woman—who was later named as Nikisha Rose of Parliament Street, Gray's Farm—died to her injuries at about 11:25pm. Her passing has shocked her neighborhood, forcing family members, friends, and neighbors to struggle with still another instance of gun violence.
The male victim, who also lives on Gray's Farm, survived the gunfire and is still being treated in stable condition at the hospital. At present, authorities have not made his name public.
Preliminary inquiries indicate the bullets targeted the vehicle precisely, hence showing premeditation rather than a chance attack. Police have not said if the victims were followed before to the shooting, how many shots were fired, or whether the attacker fled the scene by car or on foot. No arrests have been made, and no cause has yet been identified.
Investigators are presently trying to recreate the series of events leading up to the shooting. This covers following the victims' paths prior to their arrival in Michael's Village and analyzing if surveillance video from nearby businesses or private residences might have caught key events before or following the assault.
The shooting's location and timing—late at night in a busy neighborhood—have sparked larger worries about public safety, accessibility, visibility, and emergency response in places visited after dark.
