Hattiesburg Woman Kills Husband, Child Before Taking Own Life in Murder–Suicide
Hattiesburg police confirm murder–suicide: Brianna Bruno fatally shot husband Thomas O’Neil and their 3‑year‑old child before taking her own life.
HATTIESBURG, MS — A devastating domestic tragedy unfolded on Seventh Avenue this week, as police confirmed a murder–suicide involving a woman, her husband, and their young child.
Authorities say they responded to a welfare check at a home in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue on January 27, where they discovered three people dead inside. The victims were identified as Thomas O’Neil, 37; Brianna Bruno, 32; and a 3‑year‑old child related to the couple.
Autopsies performed on January 29 determined that O’Neil and the child died from gunshot wounds, with their deaths ruled homicides. Bruno also died from a gunshot wound, which was ruled a suicide.
Police described the incident as isolated, emphasizing that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
In a statement, the Hattiesburg Police Department said: “We extend our condolences to the families affected by this devastating event.”
The investigation remains ongoing, but officials have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
